Murcia’s Barnés Car Park Offers 360 Spaces for Less Than 6 euros Per Day
The City Council Reaches an Agreement With the Car Park Licensee to “Offer Solvent Alternatives” to Mobility in the City
Twenty-four hours, 5.95 euros. The Barnés car park is now offering this rate to residents and visitors to Murcia who want to park their cars in the Santa María de Gracia, Ronda Norte and Primo de Rivera axis, an offer that also extends to the nearby Juan Carlos I. This is good news for all those affected by the reduction in surface parking due to the road works currently underway.
The Murcia City Council has reached an agreement with iPark, the car park licensee, to make 360 spaces available to users for this price (the remaining parking up to the total of 585 spaces shall be leased). The price is 1.80 euros per hour, with a limit of 5.95 euros.
The Councillor for Mobility, José Francisco Muñoz, stated this Tuesday that the goal of this agreement, which he hopes to extend to other licences, is to “offer reliable and solvent alternatives to mobility” in Murcia, especially after the changes brought about by construction. He added that due to its proximity to public transportation, such as buses and trams, “it will facilitate combined transport options.”
The licensee’s head of Operations, Samuel Arranz, highlighted during the agreement’s presentation that the company’s goal is to “optimise the use of these splendidly well-located facilities as much as possible.” In addition, he said, “drivers shall be less concerned about their car while they are going about their business.”
The Mobility Councillor also pointed out that this initiative contributes to the mobility-related goals set by the City Council in Murcia: offering affordable park-and-ride centres; ensuring a maximum of 8 minutes walking distance between people’s cars and their final destinations; encouraging the use of combined means of transport; regulating the use of scooters and bicycles; and establishing a balance between the use of private vehicles and sustainability.
